The Scotch bonnet is a tropical hot pepper variety commonly grown in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as in other tropical regions of the world (and in Ohio, by us!). It’s yellowish-orange color, glossy appearance and Chinese lantern shape combine with a smoky, fruity flavor to make it a favorite in Caribbean-style cuisine.
(Capsicum chinense)
While it’s spicier than many things with “Scotch” in the name, its heat doesn’t reach the level of other super hot peppers, so it’s a perfect choice for those who aren’t looking for five-alarm heat.
